Just a couple of miles from the northern end of Windermere, Troutbeck is a charming village with a couple of great pubs. The cottage is a fantastic base for wonderful rural walks, with footpaths and bridleways from the doorstep. Nearby attractions for walkers include Wansfell Pike (1.5 miles), Red Screes (4.5 miles) and Stock Ghyll Force (2.5 miles). Heading south, the town of Windermere (3 miles) lies on the shores of the lake and has some welcoming places to eat and drink. To the north, you can visit Wordsworth’s home in Ambleside (3.5 miles), or you could take a cruise across the lake to Wray Castle. The cottage is also ideal for visiting Coniston Water and Ullswater (both 10 miles).

Entering this pretty cottage, you will find yourself in the cosy and inviting first lounge. Retaining original features including exposed ceiling beams, oak floor, a window seat and an open fire, this is a lovely space to relax in. A great space to curl up with a good book, this room also has plenty of comfortable seating and a Smart TV tucked away in one of the built-in cupboards. A second lounge also offers a Smart TV and plenty of seating, ensuring there’s ample space for the whole family to sit back and unwind. Exploring further, the light and attractive country-style kitchen is equipped with an electric oven, induction hob, microwave, two larder fridges, a freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer. Originally the farm’s laundry, the dining room has a vaulted ceiling and makes a lovely space for you to all gather together. Going upstairs, you will find three tastefully decorated and beautifully furnished bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, feature fireplace, plenty of storage space and a relaxing en-suite bathroom with a free-standing cast-iron bath and WC. There’s also a charming king-size room, and a delightful twin room which can be made up as a super-king-size on prior request. This room also has its own en-suite WC. Finally, there’s a handy family bathroom complete with a shower over the bath and a WC.

Stepping outside, the pretty garden features a varied selection of shrubs and plants and is a haven for birds and wildlife. Outdoor furniture provides a delightful spot for you to dine alfresco. Private parking is available for up to two cars.

Our second visit to this superb cosy and well equipped cottage. It has plenty of games and toys to keep all the grandchildren amused! The kitchen is well equipped, although the dishwasher is small. We had a very relaxing time at Birkett House. Did some lovely walks direct from the cottage and visited two good pubs, again within walking distance. The cottage is very cosy with a lovely garden when we wanted to sit outside and lots of comfy sofa when we didn't. Overall the cottage is very well looked after with in character decoration. This is a wonderfully comfortable cottage in a beautiful quiet village with easy access to Windermere, a shop literally over the road, a pub in 15 minute walking distance and several lovely walks from the door. Well equipped with kitchen equipment, games, books and toys to entertain small children. Perfect.
