The village has a number of welcoming pubs and restaurants, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery and the Old Grammar School. To the south is the beautiful Esthwaite Water (1 mile), with Coniston Water to the south-west, the vast expanse of Windermere to the east and Grasmere and Rydal Water to the north (all within 9 miles). Walkers and climbers can attempt Claife Heights or The Old Man of Coniston (both 5 miles), or you can head into Grizedale Forest (2.5 miles) for beautiful walks, a sculpture trail and a Go Ape centre. Other local attractions include the National Trust’s Hill Top (2.5 miles) and Fell Foot Park (10 miles).
