Stepping into this inviting cottage, the lounge/diner makes a wonderful space to unwind, with plenty of seating, a cosy wood burner, a sociable dining area and a TV/DVD. There’s also a selection of books, games and jigsaws to help keep you entertained. The fully equipped kitchen is perfect for cooking all your favourite family meals. A flight of stairs leads up from the kitchen, with the first-floor landing housing a traditional ceiling-pulley airer/dryer. The first floor has two light and cosy bedrooms: a lovely king-size room with views towards Kidsty Pike, and a relaxing twin bedroom. There’s also a family bathroom. Heading outside, the enclosed garden has views out over the open countryside. Featuring a picnic table with bench seating and a range of shrubs, this outside space provides a charming spot for a morning coffee. For the train enthusiast, to the rear of the cottage is the West Coast main line, which occasionally plays host to vintage steam trains including the Flying Scotsman!
Shap has a choice of good pubs and shops, a cafe and a fish and chip shop, as well as a heated open-air seasonal swimming pool. Heading into the Lake District, you can visit the secluded Haweswater (8 miles) where you may spot deer, badgers and red squirrels. Other landmarks include Shap Abbey, Keld Chapel, Gunnerkeld Stone Circle, Sleddale Hall (all within 5 miles), and the Rheged Centre and Brougham Castle in the popular town of Penrith (10.5 miles).
