Set in the picturesque Cumbrian village of Shap, this cosy cottage makes a wonderful holiday hideaway for up to four guests. A perfect getaway for couples and smaller families, this charming cottage is ideal for exploring the north-eastern fringe of the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the magnificent North Pennines. Just a few miles from Penrith, this delightful property features a warming wood burner, and makes a wonderful base for walkers and nature lovers discovering the area’s beautiful lakes, villages, valleys and woodlands.

Stepping into this inviting cottage, the lounge/diner makes a wonderful space to unwind, with plenty of seating, a cosy wood burner, a sociable dining area and a TV/DVD. There’s also a selection of books, games and jigsaws to help keep you entertained. The fully equipped kitchen is perfect for cooking all your favourite family meals. A flight of stairs leads up from the kitchen, with the first-floor landing housing a traditional ceiling-pulley airer/dryer. The first floor has two light and cosy bedrooms: a lovely king-size room with views towards Kidsty Pike, and a relaxing twin bedroom. There’s also a family bathroom. Heading outside, the enclosed garden has views out over the open countryside. Featuring a picnic table with bench seating and a range of shrubs, this outside space provides a charming spot for a morning coffee. For the train enthusiast, to the rear of the cottage is the West Coast main line, which occasionally plays host to vintage steam trains including the Flying Scotsman!

Shap has a choice of good pubs and shops, a cafe and a fish and chip shop, as well as a heated open-air seasonal swimming pool. Heading into the Lake District, you can visit the secluded Haweswater (8 miles) where you may spot deer, badgers and red squirrels. Other landmarks include Shap Abbey, Keld Chapel, Gunnerkeld Stone Circle, Sleddale Hall (all within 5 miles), and the Rheged Centre and Brougham Castle in the popular town of Penrith (10.5 miles).

Lovely cottage. Both parties arrived separately when it was dark, it was easy to immediately feel at home with great quality equipment that was easy to use at hand. Shap is a great village with lots to do locally. Dog friendly garden and walking nearby ideal for our needs. Plan to return.

Cosy & well-appointed cottage in a handy location. Beds super comfy. Plenty of crockery & cutlery, so you're not constantly washing up (why do some cottages for 4 people only provide 4 plates, 4 mugs etc?? ). Books & games were appreciated during a week of not so brilliant weather - we are now 'Frustration' addicts! Recommendations: open-air swimmiRead moreng pools in the village & Askham nearby (if you get good weather), steak & ale pie at the 'Greyhound' pub in the village, a visit to Lowther Castle. Hide
