This charming holiday retreat enjoys a prime position in Ambleside's historic quarter, in the central Lake District. The characterful, pet-friendly cottage welcomes five guests and suits families and groups of friends who love getting out and about in nature. You'll be perfectly placed to explore the market town's collection of independent shops, before sampling some delicious local produce in one of the friendly pubs or restaurants. Ambleside is a fantastic base for walkers, with numerous tracks and trails branching away from the town, including to the spectacular Stock Ghyll Force. You'll also be within easy reach of popular walking destinations such as the Fairfield Horseshoe and Loughrigg Fell. The town sits at the northern end of Windermere, and from Waterhead Pier you can board a boat to enjoy a scenic cruise around England's largest lake. Further afield, explore the dramatic landscape of the Langdale Valley or spend an afternoon pottering around the pretty village of Grasmere (both within 5 miles).

The former church is full of personality and charm, and sits within one of the oldest and most characterful parts of the town. Inside, the property has been carefully transformed into a welcoming holiday home, with traditional decor and furniture complementing the building's original features. On the ground floor, enter the home into a bright and inviting kitchen/diner, where you can prepare breakfast feasts and home-cooked dinners and come together at the extendable dining table for memorable mealtimes as a group. The kitchen/diner leads through to the spacious lounge, where an array of comfortable seating is set around a TV. Upstairs, three delightful bedrooms await – a double, a twin, and a single - all decorated in delicate pastel shades and featuring beautiful original arched windows. A refreshing family bathroom rounds off this unique holiday retreat.

Outside, unwind in the sunshine in the enclosed patio garden, where you'll find a picnic bench for al fresco dining on balmy evenings. Guests are also welcome to use the shared garden. The property has private parking for one car.

Great location Happy to stay again

Reviewed by Laura 9th June 2025

Perfect location, great little outdoor space , the kitchen was well equipped a refreshing change. Some small niggles like the heating being too hot (we ended up turning it off) and the hive not connecting. Entry to the cottage parking and the parking space itself can be a little snug especially with a bigger car but nothing that was overly annoyingRead more . Overal I really liked this cottage and wouldn't hesitate to book again. Hide
