The nearby village of Threlkeld (1.5 miles) has a couple of friendly pubs, or you could head to Keswick (5.5 miles) on the banks of Derwentwater. This thriving market town is home to a range of great restaurants and independent shops, as well as the quirky Pencil Museum. Local attractions include the Aira Force Waterfall near Ullswater (9 miles), the beautiful Mirehouse and Gardens on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake (9 miles) and the peaks of Skiddaw (10 miles) and Blencathra (5 miles by foot).
