If you are looking for a true retreat, far from crowds, with stunning views and fell walks, then High Kiln Bank, overlooking the Duddon Valley may well be the choice for you.

The Duddon Valley lies west of the Coniston Mountain range, one of the least changed landscapes in Lakeland. From the Langdales the river runs the full length of the valley, down to the Duddon Sands, its course flanked by impressive fell. Harter, Dunnerdale and Ulpha offer some challenging high level treks along with many low level paths and trails over moorland, through woodland and by the River banks.

At Seathwaite is the Newfield Inn, an two mile walk along country lanes. At the foot of the valley is the lovely village of Broughton with plenty of shops, inns and restaurants. Tyson's is an excellent deli and grocer and next door the bakers makes some of the tastiest bread you will find.

High Kiln Bank Cottage

Dating back to the 18th C, the cottage is traditional in style with flag floors and oak beams. You approach from the valley floor up a winding lane and down a private track.

From the entrance lobby you step into a large sitting room, very traditional, with sofas and armchairs drawn to a roaring log fire. To add a touch of 21st mod cons you have a super flat screen TV with Sky.

The kitchen has revealed stone walls, flag floors and all you need to prepare hearty meals.

Upstairs lie the three bedrooms, simple, but most comfortable, there is a master double, a double with extra single bed and finally a twin bedded room. You will also find two bathrooms with overhead showers.

To the front of the cottage is a small garden overlooking the valley. There is also a meadow where children can play when not being used for farm stock and it is hoped to reinstate the old orchard for guests use.

Down in the valley you can fish and swim in parts the river or find the perfect spot to take a picnic.

With splendid walking, superb views and the warmest of welcome this cottage will offer a perfect getaway to refresh and relax.
