Tent Lodge Estate Landscape 1

You will find few places that will give such a deep sense of the power and beauty of Lakelands landscape as the Tent Lodge Estate. Steeped in historical connections it has been home and inspiration to such poets, writers and artists as Turner, Arthur Ransome and Lord Alfred Tennyson.

Today the Estate offers a selection of Lake District holiday cottages to suit all party sizes, set in one of the finest locations in the central Lake District. Here, each cottage is a short distance from the private waters edge, where the view is filled by the high peaks of Coniston’s mountain range, reflected in deep waters.

The Estate lies at the north east head of Coniston Water, in the heart of the Lake District, the properties and grounds set a little above the lake, where a twenty acre meadow sweeps down to the waters edge.

The Estate and Surrounds

There are three jetties which for a small fee guests may moor their own boats or hire rowing, sailing or powered boats from the Coniston Boating Centre. With eight hundred yards of shore line to explore and the whole lake to muck about on, in and by, you have the ideal recipe for the perfect Lakeland holiday.

The village of Coniston lies about a mile and half around the lake, offering shops, cafes and a number of good pubs serving locally brewed ale.

From the village, tracks lead up through the old coppermines valley and to the foot of Coniston Old Man, where the hearty can make an attempt to the 2635 ft summit and view never to be forgotten.

Grizedale Cottage

Grizedale and its adjoining cottages are all situated on the west side of the lane on the Tent Lodge Estate. They are set around the central courtyard bounded by Tinkler Beck Farm and Cottage.

Shared with Wetherlam, you have a large, peaceful and shady garden area in which to relax, and enjoy the spectacular view.

The short walk across the meadow brings you to the lake shore and the private jetties.

Grizedale is one of three adjoining cottages, created from the old 18th century stable. You step into a cosy sitting room with a welcoming open fire, a plump sofa and arm chair, nice furnishings, and with a gentle light spilling into the room from the deep set windows.

The kitchen is well equipped, light and airy and just the right size for dining.

Upstairs are two comfortable double bedrooms, with the master double offering an extra single bed.

The bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower, hand basin and W.C.

With a large peaceful garden, wonderful views, and the freedom and pleasure of the lake shore, all combine to make the perfect Lakeland holiday.

All in all the cottages of the Tent Lodge Estate offer the perfect holiday, offering guests that rare element of fine accommodation, views of our magnificent mountains, private lake access and all set in the heart of Cumbrias Lake District.
