Chapel Cottage lies in the heart of the Lake District, a stones throw from Ullswater, in the village of Glenriding, and offers guests a large, well appointed spacious Lake District cottage, perfect for family holidays, celebration and reunion.
The building was formerly the old Methodist Chapel and school room, now converted into two fine, stylish and adjoining homes, both set in an elevated position on the main lake road, opposite Ullswater.
The village is renowned as a great base for walking and climbing, offering a number of good hotels, inns and pubs, a grocer and garage, along with more shops and pubs at nearby Patterdale.
Walks abound. There are easy lake side and low fell trails or, for the more adventurous, many routes up onto high mountain. There is plenty of opportunity for some fun on the lake with steamer trips, boat hire or, for a quiet day, you can walk a short distance across the road to the little National Trust woodland and lakeside beach, perfect for a picnic.
The Lake is inspiring, a serpentine body of water that snakes its way beneath some of the finest mountain and fell. Best explored from the southern end, it is dominated by St Sunday Cragg, Place Fell, Fairfield and Helvellyn.
Chapel Cottage
Approached by steps from either the front or side of the property, you enter the cottage via a small lobby which opens through to a large sun filled hallway. Off the hall is a shower room, basin and wc.
The sitting room is large, perfect to relax after a day of exploration with big plump sofas set around a roaring log fire.
On the opposite side of the hall is the well equipped kitchen, with double doors opening into the dining room. Here you can enjoy long, relaxed meals, discussing your days adventure and planning the days to come.
Up the stairs to a spacious landing and you have the four bedrooms. Two are double, both with five foot beds and one having an en-suite bathroom. The remaining two bedrooms are both twin bedded. All of the bedrooms are of a good size and can accommodate the Z beds where required and ordered.
Also off the landing is the master bathroom with bath, separate shower, hand basin, bidet and WC.
To the rear and side of the cottage there are steps leading to a small terraced area to sit and enjoy a view of fell tops, with a flat paved patio area for barbecues.
For me, Chapel Cottage is the perfect Lake District Cottage where, with walks to explore, mountains to climb or boats to hire for mucking about in and on the water, you can put away the car keys, relax and enjoy a true break, with always a comfortable home to return to each day of your holiday stay.
