The Lythe Valley lies west from Lake Windermere. A sun drenched plain, flanked by low rolling fell and woodland, it is a green and yellow ochre patchwork of meadows and orchards, criss crossed with narrow winding lanes that pass through farm land, by woodland and over rivers and becks, perfect for walks and cycling. |

| Middlebank Cottage is the larger of two conversions, restored by owners Robin & Marnie. Dating back some three hundred years they were originally a farm cottage and barn. Middlebank has retained much atmosphere, boasting an abundance of oak beams, pillars, stonework and flagged floors. Crosthwaite lies five miles east from Lake Windermere, in the Lyth Valley. The landscape as you drive toward the lake is quite delightful, passing through little hamlets, woodland and fell. A stone’s throw from the cottage is the much vaunted Punch Bowl Inn. Highly praised for its cuisine, and featured by such writers as Jonathan Meads, and now established as a place of pilgrimage to lovers of fine food. From the courtyard you enter into an open plan sitting dining room with kitchen area, furnished in traditional cottage style. Original steps have been retained that take you out of the sitting room into the private garden through a tiny door. Stairs lead up to a landing, off which are the two bedrooms, one double and one twin. The twin room has an interesting veranda with steps leading back down to the forecourt. The bathroom has bath, overhead shower, hand basin and WC. The garden is a delight, beautifully cared for with panoramic views from the lawn across the Lyth Valley.
